Abstract:

Gasteroid fungi are a diverse taxonomic pool of species that was regularly collected but was not comprehensively studied for the area of Macedonia. The survey for Gasteromycetes in the Republic of Macedonia up to now revealed 25 genera: Astraeus, Battarrea, Bovista, Bovistella, Calvatia, Clathrus, Crucibulum, Cyathus, Disciseda, Endoptychum, Geastrum, Hymenogaster, Langermannia, Lycoperdon, Melanogaster, Mutinus, Mycenastrum, Myriostoma, Phallus, Pisolithus, Rhizopogon, Scleroderma, Sphaerobolus, Tulostoma and Vascellum. Molecular analyses (ITS nrDNA, fungi barcoding) were used for supporting and revaluation of morphological identified basidiocarps of six selected genera of gasteroid fungi: Astraeus, Ваttarrea, Sсlеrodеrma, Pisolithus, Lycoperdon and Tulostoma.

A total of 88 species were identified. Twenty one species are registered as common, and twenty nine species could be highlighted as rare. Following 19 species: Battarrea phalloides, Disciseda bovista, Disciseda candida (critically endangered, CR); Endoptychum agaricoides, Mycenastrum corium, Myriostoma coliforme, Phallus hadriani (endangered, EN); Geastrum berkeleyi, Trichaster melanocephalum, Geastrum minimum (vulnerable, VU); Mutinus caninus, Pisolithus arhizus, Scleroderma polyrhizum, S. meridionale, Tulostoma fimbriatum, T. melanocyclum (near threatened, NT); Tulostoma squamosum (LC); Phallus impudicus var. togatus and Tulostoma caespitosum (data deficient, DD) are part of the Red List of Fungi in the Republic of Macedonia. Two Pisolithus species (P. capsulifer and P. tictorius) should be added to this list. Twenty two species are new for the Macedonian mycobiota.

Key words: gasteroid fungi, morphology, molecular analyses, phylogeny
