    In general I am interested in evolutionary biology, with a particular interest in development and evolution of flowers integrating morphological and molecular approaches.  Having as a main background angiosperm systematics, I explored the phylogeny in members of the tropical flora and recently presented my doctoral dissertation in evolution and floral morphology in the order Fabales (legumes and relatives).  As a postdoctoral fellow in the Real Jardín Botánico at Madrid I will continue the exploration of floral evolution focusing in morphological novelties such as epicalyx in Malvaceae, corona in Narcissus and symmetry in Asteraceae.  The characterization of selected genes involved in morphological change and their informativity for phylogenetic inference will be also examined.
