Reconstrucción de la evolución espacio-temporal de la "Rand Flora" Afro-Mediterránea mediante datación filogenética y nuevos métodos biogeográficos basados en modelos. La existencia de grupos de plantas emparentados pero con distribuciones disyuntas entre Macaronesia y NW Africa, el E y S Africa, y W Asia ha intrigado a los botánicos desde hace décadas. El ejemplo más conocido es el "drago" canario, que presenta sus parientes más cercanos en Yemen y la isla de Socotra. En este proyecto, utilizaremos datos empíricos de grupos modelo y filogenias publicadas, junto con nuevos métodos de datación filogenética y de inferencia biogeográfica basada en modelos, para reconstruir el origen evolutivo de este enigmático patrón florístico.
Aplicación de métodos biogeográficos de inferencia bayesiana a la reconstrucción de patrones de diversificación en la flora canaria Archipiélagos oceánicos como las Islas Canarias representan un reto para los biogeógrafos porque en ellos la dispersión es el proceso biogeográfico dominante mientras que los métodos actuales de análisis biogeográfico se basan en el proceso de vicarianza (fragmentación geológica). En este proyecto utilizamos un nuevo método biogeográfico basado en inferencia bayesiana para estimar tasas de dispersión histórica entre islas y patrones de colonización sobre una base de datos que reúne todas las filogenias publicadas hasta la fecha con el objetivo final de reconstruir el origen evolutivo de la flora canaria.
