Using the Herbarium

On site research

The Real Jardín Botánico Herbarium is open to visits by scientists. To consult the herbarium it will be necessary to present a duly completed visitor's card for the centre, stating the curator's authorisation. Go to Visiting the Herbarium.

Loan of specimens

The Herbarium's specimens may only be lent to other recognised botanical institutions. Under no circumstances may they be lent to private individuals. Loans from the RJB must be applied for in writing by the curator or director of the institution concerned, who shall be responsible for the safekeeping and return of the material. Online herbarium

The online Herbarium's databases currently contain detailed information about all the specimens in the algae, bryophyte, lichen and fungi collections. The Real Jardín Botánico is currently working on the digitisation of the information and images in the remainder of the collections, and these will gradually be included in the online Herbarium.
