Glaucous perennial, glabrous or sometimes with sparsely papillate leaves; fertile stems numerous, 10-30 cm, arcuate-ascending to suberect, slender, often much-branched and tufted at base, usually much-branched above, sparsely to somewhat densely leafy except for 1-6 cm below inflorescence; sterile stems absent. Leaves (l0-) 20-30 x 0.5-1 mm, the length (20-) 30-50 x breadth, filiform, acute, flat, attenuate, alternate. Inflorescence with 3-8 flowers, lax in flower and fruit. Bracts 1-1.5 mm, oblong-ovate, acute, the margins scarious. Pedicels suberect, 2-3 mm in flower, 2.5-4.5 mm in fruit. Calyx-lobes equal, 2-3 x 0.8-1.2 mm, linear-spathulate, obtuse, the margins narrowly scarious, white. Corolla 15-22 mm, dull whitish-yellow, some-times becoming tinged with reddish-brown, the palate deeper yellow or orange with dense white hairs, more or less glabrous externally; tube 4-5 mm broad at mouth; adaxial lip sinus 1-1.3 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.5-0.9 mm; spur (6-) 8-10 mm, 1.3-1.5 mm broad at base, slender, acute, straight or somewhat curved, subequalling rest of corolla. Capsule 3-4 x 3-4 mm, globose, glabrous. Seeds 2.9-3.2 mm, oblong-reniform, blackish-grey; wing 0.5-0.7 mm broad, thin; disc smooth. Modified from Sutton (1988).
