Glaucous annual, glabrous except for the glandular-pubescent infIorescence; fertile stems 1-10 (-30), 5-15 cm, very slender, procumbent or ascending; sterile stems 1-6. Leaves of fertile stems 5-15 x 0.3-1.3 mm, linear, acute, flat or somewhat revolute, mostly alternate; leaves of sterile stems like those of fertile stems but mostly in whorls of 4. InfIorescence with 1-4 fIowers, dense in fIower and fruit. Bracts 3-7 mm, linear, acute. Pedicels 1-2 mm in flower and fruit, erect. Calyx-lobes unequal, linear-oblong, subacute or obtuse; adaxial lobe 4.5-7 x 0.5-0.7 mm; abaxial lobes 2.5-4 x 0.6-1.4 mm. Corolla 16-23 (-27) mm, violet or orange-red with yellow palate; tube broad; adaxial lip sinus 1.8-2.2 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.7-1.1 mm; spur 8-12 mm, somewhat broad, curved, shorter than or equalling rest of corolla. Capsule 4.5-7.5 mm, globose, glabrous. Seeds 2.2-3.1 mm, reniform-orbicular to suborbicular, fIat or concavoconvex; hilum very narrow; wing 0.6-1 mm broad, membranous, smooth, without papillae, whitish-grey; disc reniform, tuberculate, without papillae, black, the tubercles long, outwardpointing, acute; periclinal wall of testa-cells tabular, vermcate to reticulate, the anticlinal walls of testa-cells angular with raised junction.
