Glaucous, rather fleshy annual, glabrous except for the sparsely pubescent inflorescence; fertile stems 2-12, 6-16 cm, ascending to erect, simple; sterile stems usually absent. Leaves 6-22 x 2-8 cm, oblong to oblong-obovate, obtuse, flat, in whorls of 3-4 below, alternate above. Inflorescence with 6-13 flowers, somewhat dense in flower and fruit. Bracts 6-13 mm, narrowly obovate, obtuse. Pedicels 1-4 mm in flower and fruit, suberect. Calyx-lobes subequal, 5-7 x 1.8-2.5 mm in flower, 7-10.5 x 3.5-4.5 mm in fruit, subacute. Corolla 24-35 mm, reddishpurple with orange palate; tube somewhat slender or broad at base; adaxial 1ip sinus (2.5-) 4-6 mm; lower lip sinus (0.5-) 1.5-2 mm; spur 17-20 mm, broad at the base, straight, greatly exceeding rest of corolla. Capsule 4-7 mm, globose, glabrous. Seeds 2.4-3 mm, suborbicular, plano-convex, black and somewhat metallic-shiny; hilum broad; wing 0.6-0.7 mm broad, conspicuously inflated, smooth, not papillate; disc reniform to hippocrepiform, smooth or tuberculate, the tubercles long, directed towards margin, acute, papillae usually absent; periclinal wall of testa-cells tabular, tabular-convex or papillate, densely verrucate, the anticlinal walls of testa-cells angular with irregular ridge over junction.
