Glandular-puberulent annual with numerous reddish-purple multicellular hairs in the inflorescence; fertile stems 1-15 (-25), 4.5-12 (-15) cm, decumbent or ascending, simple or sparingly branched; sterile stems 0-5. Leaves of fertile stems 2-8 (-15) x 0.5-1.4 (-2) mm, linear or linear-oblanceolate, acute, flat, 4-verticillate at base, alternate above; leaves of sterile stems similar to those of fertile stems but usually shorter, 4-verticillate. Inflorescence with 2-5 (-9) flowers, dense in flower and fruit. Pedicels 1-3.5 mm in flower and fruit, erect. Bracts 2.5-5 mm, linear, acute. Calyx-lobes unequal, linear or linear-spathulate, acute; adaxial lobe 4-7 x 0.5-0.6 mm; abaxial lobes 2.5-3.5 x 0.6-0.8 mm. Corolla 13-20 mm, yellow with orangeyellow palate, rarely mauve, the spur sometimes tinged with red or violet; tube slender; adaxial lip sinus 1.3-2 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.5-0.7 mm; spur 4.5-7 mm, straight, slender, shorter than or equalling rest of corolla. Capsule 2.5-4 mm, ovoid to somewhat oblong, glandularpubescent. Seeds (0.5-) 0.6-0.75 mm, reniform-tetrahedral, rarely with narrow marginal ridge, tuberculate and sparsely papillate; hilum narrow; marginal ridge up to 0.03 mm broad, the tubercles low, often elongated to form short ridges, more or less contiguous; periclinal wall of testa-cells convex or papillate, densely verrucate to reticulate, the anticlinal wall of testa-cells angular with ridge over junction.
