Glaucous, glabrous perennial; fertile stems usually numerous, 10-35 cm, ascending to erect, branched; sterile stems usually absent. Leaves of fertile stems 10-60 x 0.4-1.8 mm, the length (7-) 20-35 x breadth, filiform or linear, acute, the margins involute, attenuate, mostly alternate. Inflorescence with 2-15 flowers, more or less lax in flower and fruit. Bracts 1-3 (-10) mm, linear, acute. Pedicels 1-3.5 mm in flower and fruit, erect. Calyx-lobes 1.8-3 x 0.6-0.7 mm, linear-lanceolate, acute, the margins scarious, white. Corolla 16-21 mm, lilac or violet with paler palate; tube 2-2.5 mm broad; adaxial lip sinus 1.5-3 mm; abaxial lip sinus 1-1.5 mm; spur 7-11 mm, 0.8-1.2 mm broad at base, straight, more or less equalling rest of corolla. Capsule 2.5-4.5 x 2.5-3.7 mm, oblong-globose, glabrous. Seeds 0.9-1.2 mm, crescenti-trigonous to somewhat tetrahedral, blackish-brown; longitudinal marginal ridges 0.05-0.1 mm high, the intervening faces with rounded, sinuate, anastomosed ridges; periclinal wall of testa-cells tabular or tabular-convex, rugulate or verrucate except towards margins, that of cells from interstices or ridge-bases usually with median or submarginal papilla, the papillae slender, conical, acute.
