Glabrous, somewhat glaucous perennial, propagating vegetatively by adventitious buds on creeping rootstock; fertile stems 1-5,8-20 cm, decumbent, ascending or rarely suberect, much branched from base, occasionally above; sterile stems 0-6, procumbent to ascending. Leaves of fertile stems 15-35 x 5-15 (-20) mm, the length 1.14 x breadth, elliptic to oblong-ovate, subacute to obtuse, flat, alternate. Inflorescence with 8-16 flowers, dense in flower and fruit. Bracts 8-14 mm, lanceolate to ovate, acute, becoming leaf-like below. Pedicels erect, 1.5-3 mm in flower, 3-4.5 mm in fruit. Calyx-lobes subequal, 4.5-6.5 x 1.2-1.7 mm, oblong or oblong-oblanceolate, subacute or obtuse, very narrowly white-scarious towards base. Corolla 20-23 (-26) mm, brownish-violet with orange markings on tube; tube 5-6.5 mm broad at mouth; adaxial lip sinus 1.2-1.8 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.8-1.4 mm; spur (5-) 8-10 mm, 1.5-2 mm broad at base, straight, shorter than rest of corolla. Capsule 5-6.5 x 4.5-5.5 mm, globose, sparsely glandular-puberulent towards apex. Seeds 2.7-3.5 x 1.6-2.6 mm, reniform-orbicular or subor- bicular, blackish-grey to black; wing 0.4-0.9 mm broad; disc elongate-reniform, smooth.
