Glaucous, glabrous perennial, sometimes reproducing by root-buds; fertile stems 1-10, 15-30 cm, ascending to suberect, slender, branched from base, usually much-branched and sparsely leafy above; sterile stems rarely present. Leaves (7-) 20-40 x (0.3-) 0.7-2.5 (-3) mm, the length 12-30 x breadth, linear, acute, flat or involute, attenuate, somewhat fleshy, alternate. Inflorescence with 2-7 (-11) flowers, lax or very lax in flower and fruit. Bracts 24 mm, lanceolate to ovate, subacute to obtuse. Pedicels erect, 1-3 mm in flower, 4-5 mm in fruit. Calyx-lobes more or less equal, 2.5-4 x 1.2-2 mm, ovate, obtuse to subacute, the margins narrowly to somewhat broadly white-scarious, glabrous. Corolla 22-27 mm, pale yellow, the tube with 2 orange marks, sparsely glandular-puberulent externally, particularly in bud; tube 4.5-6 mm broad at mouth; adaxial lip sinus 0.7-1.2 mm; abaxial lip sinus 1-2 mm; spur 10-14 mm, 1.3-2 mm broad at base, slender, straight, subequalling to exceeding rest of corolla. Capsules subglobose, glandular-puberulent towards apex. Seeds black, shiny; disc smooth. Modified from Sutton (1988).
