Glabrous, somewhat glaucous annual; fertile stems usually numerous, 15-30 cm, decumbent to erect, simple or branched above; sterile stems usually absent. Leaves of fertile stems 7-30 x 0.5-1 mm, linear, obtuse, flat, attenuate, mostly verticillate in whorls of 4; leaves of sterile stems similar to those of fertile stems. Inflorescence with 5-17 flowers, lax in flower and fruit. Bracts 1.5-6 mm, linear, obtuse to subacute. Pedicels 0.5-4.5 mm in flower and fruit, erect. Calyxlobes subequal, 2.5-3 x 0.4-1.2 mm, linear-lanceolate, acute, narrowly scarious, often tinged with violet. Corolla 7.5-9 (-12) mm, violet with yellow palate; tube somewhat slender; adaxial lip sinus 1.5-2 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.3-0.5 mm; spur 3-4.5 mm, slender, curved, shorter than rest of corolla. Capsule 3-4.5 mm, subglobose, somewhat emarginate, glabrous. Seeds 1-1.5 mm, reniform-orbicular, concavo-convex or plano-convex; hilum narrow; wing 0.15-0.3 mm broad, membranous, smooth, not papillate, dentate or subentire, white; disc strongly reniform, tuberculate, not papillate, blackish-grey, the tubercles white, long and numerous on convex face, short and few on concave face; periclinal wall of testa-cells convex-tabular or tabularconcave, more or less smooth, the anticlinal walls of testa-cells angular with conspicuous ridge over junction.
