Glaucous, glabrous annual; fertile stems 1-8 (-10), usually solitary, 2.5-13 cm, erect or occasionally ascending; sterile stems 0-3. Leaves 3-8.5 x 0.4-0.8 (-2) mm, linear to linearoblanceolate, obtuse, flat, in whorls of 3 below, alternate above; leaves of sterile stems similar to those of fertile stems but broader, in whorls of 3. Inflorescence with 1-3 (-8) flowers, lax in flower and fruit. Bracts 1.5-4 mm, linear, obtuse. Pedicels 2.5-4.5 mm in flower, 5-8 mm in fruit, erecto-patent. Calyx-lobes subequal, 1.5-3 x 0.5-0.7 mm, oblong to oblong-ovate, subacute or obtuse, narrowly scarious. Corolla 4-5 mm, violet with orange palate; tube slender; adaxial lip sinus 0.8-1 mm; abaxial lip sinus 0.3-0.5 mm; spur 1.5-2 mm, slender, straight or rarely curved forwards, shorter than rest of corolla. Capsule 2-3 mm, globose, somewhat emarginate, glabrous. Seeds (0.4-) 0.6-0.7 mm, reniform, without encircling wing or ridge, more or less smooth, without tubercles or papillae, black; hilum narrow; periclinal wall of testacells tabular, verrucate to somewhat reticulate, the anticlinal walls of testa-cells angular with irregular ridge over junctions.
