Linaria - Linaria viscosa - Taxonomy

Linaria viscosa (L.) Chaz., Suppl. Dict. Jard. 2: 39 (1790).

Annual; fertile stems simple or branched above; sterile stems usually several. Leaves of fertile stems 5-32 x (0.3-) 0.5-2 mm, linear, obtuse, flat, alternate above, 4-verticillate below; leaves of sterile stems elliptic, acute or acuminate, 3- or 4-verticillate. Inflorescence with 1-20 flowers, dense in flower and fruit. Bracts 2-6 mm. Pedicels erect. Calyx-lobes linear-lanceolate, acute, margin scarious. Corolla bright yellow; spur straight, somewhat shorter than rest of corolla. Style deeply bifid. Capsule 3.5-5 x 3-4 mm, oblong-ovoid, glabrous; loculi equal or subequal, each loculus dehiscing by 3 teeth. Seeds 0.5-0.7 mm, blackish-grey; periclinal wall of testa-cells verrucate or verruculate, the margin prominently raised, forming rounded marginal papilla towards ridge-apex, the median papilla usually present, small, rounded, more or less isodiametric.
