Annual, glabrous except for glandular-pubescent inflorescence and sparse eglandular hairs at base of stems. Fertile stems 1-5, 12-23 cm, erect, simple or rarely branched, slender; sterile stems 0-4. Leaves offertile stems 10-54 x 0.5-1 mm, linear, obtuse, alternate; leaves of fertile stems 8-12 x 0.8-1.2 mm, opposite or 3-verticillate. Inflorescence few-flowered, dense in flower, lax in fruit. Bracts 3-5 mm, linear-lanceolate or narrowly oblong, obtuse. Pedicels 4-8 mm, erecto-patent to suberect, free, scarcely accrescent. Calyx-lobes scarcely accrescent, 3.5-5 x 0.5-1 mm, linear-lanceolate to narrowly oblong, obtuse, occasionally tinged with blue, the margins narrowly scarious, white. Corolla 16-22 mm, yellow with deep yellow or orange palate, the spur sometimes tinged with blue; adaxial lip sinus 0.3-0.5 mm, the lobes appressed; abaxial lip sinus 0.8-1.2 mm; spur 9-13 mm, slender, straight or scarcely curved, acute, exceeding rest of corolla. Style bifid. Capsule 3.5-5 x 2.5-4 mm, oblong-ovoid to broadly ovoid; loculi subequal with adaxial somewhat exceeding abaxial, each loculus dehiscing by 3 teeth. Seeds 0.6-0.7 mm, reniform or oblong-reniform, strongly transversely ridged, black; transverse ridges 7-11, rounded to subacute, discrete or rarely anastomosed; periclinal wall of testa-cells densely verrucate or rugulate, the margin not or scarcely raised except for angular marginal papilla towards ridge-apex, the median papilla rarely present, small, rounded, more or less isodiametric.
