Maurandella (A. Gray) Rothm., Feddes Repert. 52: 26 (1943). Perennial suffrutescent herbs; stems homomorphic, climbing by means of twining petioles. Leaves more or less homomorphic, deltate to 5-lobed, otherwise usually entire, palmately veined, petiolate, alternate; petioles twining. Flowers zygomorphic, pedicellate, solitary in leaf- axils. Floral leaves not subtending additional branches. Pedicels not twining, the dista1 portion erect in flower, deflexed in fruit. Calyx deeply lobed, the lobes entire, subequal with the 2 abaxial lobes scarcely exceeding 3 adaxial lobes, valvate or scarcely imbricate. Corolla with tube broad, somewhat dorsi-ventrally compressed, subgibbous abaxially at base; limb unequally 2-lipped, the adaxial lip reflexed, the abaxial lip exceeding adaxial, erecto-patent with well- developed basa1 palate more or less occluding mouth of tube; lobes entire. Fertile stamens 4, didynamous, the adjacent pairs of anthers coherent, included, the connective not dilated above anthers; staminode small, with conspicuous rudimentary anther. Style more or less erect, simple; stigma linear, positioned between anthers of fertile stamens. Capsule ovoid to oblong-globose, the walls somewhat papery, the septum suberect, straight; loculi conspicuously unequal with asynchronous dehiscence, the adaxial loculus many-seeded, dehiscent, opening by several irregular teeth forming 1 pore, eventually rupturing more or less to base, the abaxial loculus few-seeded, eventually dehiscent after adaxial loculus, rupturing irregularly forming 1 pore. Seeds oblong-ovoid, somewhat dorsi-ventrally asymmetrical, tuberculate; hilum subbasal on dorsal face; dorsal face with rows of small tubercles or short, irregular, longitudinal ridges, the ventral face with large, broad tubercles or short ridges, somewhat irregularly spaced; periclinal wall of testa-cells tabular, usually with median papilla or hair papilla; epicuticular waxes sparse, granulate.
