Albraunia Speta, Bot. Jahrb. 103(1): 32 (1982).
Annual herbs; stems homomorphic, erect, the branches not cirrhous. Leaves more or less homomorphic, simple, entire, pinnately veined, petiolate below, subsessile above, alternate; petioles not cirrhous. Flowers zygomorphic, subsessile, in leafy, spike-like racemes or panicles. Bracts resembling foliage leaves but somewhat smaller, not subtending additional branches. Calyx deeply divided, the lobes entire, valvate, accrescent, subequal, the adaxial lobe somewhat shorter than lateral lobes, usually exceeding corolla-tube. Corolla with tube cylindrical or somewhat urceolate, shortly calcarate abaxially at base; limb bilabiate with subequal lips, the adaxial lip erecto-patent, the abaxial lip spreading with palate well-developed, occluding mouth of tube; spur conical, straight, minute; lobes entire. Fertile stamens 4, didynamous, included, the adjacent pairs of anthers marginally coherent, the connective not dilated above anther; staminode minute. Style simple, erect; stigma scarcely clavate, entire, positioned between anthers of fertile stamens. Capsule oblong-ovoid to oblong, initially broadening towards apex and becoming 4-angled, abruptly tapering to acute apex, the walls coriaceous, the septum erect, straight; loculi more or less equal, many-seeded, dehiscing more or less simultaneously, each loculus opening by solitary apical transverse split forming laterally elongate, entire pore. Seeds more or less radially symmetrical, ovoid to ellipsoid, irregularly cristate or reticulate, usually with long, hair-like multicellular tubercles; hilum more or less basal; periclinal wall of testa-cells tabular or tabular-convex, that of cells from interstices with median papilla, that of cells from tubercles not papillate; epicuticular waxes usually present, granulate.
